Brief Tour Description

The Jambay Lhakhang Drup, also known as Jambay Lhakhang Tshechu, is an annual festival held at Jambay Lhakhang, which was built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. This festival commemorates the establishment of the Lhakhang.

The main highlight of the festival is the sacred naked dance called Ter Cham, as well as Mewang, which is a fire blessing ceremony. The sacred naked dance is typically performed at midnight, and taking photographs during the performance is prohibited. Following the dance, the fire blessing, or Mewang, is conducted to bless infertile women, with the hope that they will be able to bear children. Most of the dances performed during this festival were created by Terton Pema Lingpa, a renowned figure in the 15th century known for treasure discovery.
